Your curling iron is literally telling you how big your section should be. 👀

Take a section of hair about the same size and width as the barrel of your curling iron.

Too much hair = uneven heat + a curl that may not form or hold as well.

Smaller barrel → smaller section
Larger barrel → larger section

Such a simple rule, but it makes a BIG difference in your curl set.

Fine hair curls fall fast? The set is everything.

For fine hair I like to curl each section with control, clip it while it’s still warm, and let it cool completely before brushing it out.

That cool down step is what helps the curl hold its shape instead of dropping right away.

Finish with a light hairspray so you get hold without stiffness.

Pro Tip: Try brushing out from underneath to help preserve the curl on top.

You’re probably not using enough mousse.

Fine hair gets told to “use less product” all the time, but mousse is one category where using too little can work against you.

For @milknhoneyadventures bob, I used about a handful of mousse to give the hair structure, support + hold.

My rule of thumb: for every additional 6 inches of hair length, I’d add another handful.

It sounds like a lot but mousse is designed to give the hair structure without the weight of heavier styling products.

The key is choosing the right one, distributing it evenly + using enough for the amount of hair you’re styling.

Fine hair loses its shape fast, so how you sleep on it matters.

Brush it out, loosely wrap it up with a large silk or satin scrunchie, and reduce friction where your hair actually touches your pillow. Bonus points for using a silk pillowcase too.

My day-two trick: a little dry shampoo at the roots in the morning to refresh without starting over.

The right brush helps but technique is what creates the result.

Rough dry the roots first, keep tension through the brush, fully dry each section, then finish with a cool shot. Keeping the nozzle pointed down also helps smooth the cuticle and reduce frizz.

Your fine hair probably doesn’t need more product. It may just need the products you already use in a better order.

For fine hair, I like to keep the routine simple:

Start with a lightweight leave-in to detangle, protect, and prep.

Add mousse or root lift only where you want volume usually the crown, front hairline, and root area.

Style the hair, then let it cool. Your brush, iron, or roller creates the shape, but cooling is what helps set it.

Finish based on what the hair actually needs:

Oil = shine
Hairspray = hold
Texture spray = volume

The goal is not to layer on everything. It’s to use the right product, in the right place, at the right time.
